WTB: Golden Tee PCB or rom set

Post by Espo1713 »

Looking for a new U15 rom for Golden tee. (Or a complete board if available)
Machine won't boot and hoping this may be the issue.

The boot ROM probably won’t fix it, unless there is obvious damage or corrosion and everything else is fine. Where does it get stuck in the boot sequence?
If you want to try a new ROM Dave Astill can burn you a new 2.09 version and send it out, he’s done many for me.

It has an LCD monitor in it hooked up directly from VGA to the video board. (tried a secondary monitor to make sure it worked). There's no sound and a "no signal" message when powered on. On the actual board we have a flashing green light at "Status 2" but a solid green light at "Status 1" which is right next to that U15 chip. Power at Jamma harness checks out as well. Any idea if that will fix the issue?

I think i see daves contact online so i think ill give him a call in the small chance it works - would be a cheap easy fix.

Thanks

Got a new U15 in the mail and replaced it but still get a solid lihgt on "status 1". Voltages to board seem ok - anyone have an idea on any other fixes?

Those status lights don’t really mean much. If the IDE light next to the ribbon cable (Hidden in your picture) Isn’t flashing then it’s not accessing the hard drive, so no boot command, and no video.
You seem to have a lot of corrosion on the chip legs, especially the main logic chip U14 next to the boot rom, and either corrosion or missing legs on the ram chips just above that at U12. First try to clean all of the corrosion etc. And make sure all of the legs are connected properly on all of the chips.
Next, make sure the video card is properly seated And all pins are making contact. There is likely some corrosion there too, preventing contact. If the video card is not seated properly, these things won’t boot.
Next, make sure the power supply is giving out a consistent 5v at least. Don’t worry about the 12 yet. See if you can inch up the voltage SLIGHTLY to like 5.01, 5.5, 5.1. Don’t go any higher than 5.2, although on this board it may not matter.
Unfortunately, these boards die for a number of reasons, and are almost invariably unrepairable. That corrosion is pretty nasty so there’s a 99% chance that’s the case. If the ram chip is missing a leg and you can repair it, Try that too.
You’re probably better off getting a new boardset and drive though.
Was this a working machine that suddenly stopped, or did you get it this way?
