Dan, thank you for posting this here, I don't think I would have caught it otherwise.

Enjoyed hearing my long time friend Mike Hanley recount how he got into collecting and how he remembers the events we lived together via à vis the original North Star Coin Machine Comapny and its' main man Jacques Tremblay who passed away last November in his 90's.

Trying to get to the nitty gritty of historical happenings about almost any past event is delicate work and can easily lead to inaccuracies everytime we look back and retell the story. This phenomena has to do with hermeneutics, and that is tricky stuff right here, there and then (pun intended) to say the least.

Inaccuracies when digging up past events are to be expected. Time is the thief of our memories and if you don't document occurences as they happen or when you hear a story from the source, they will be more than likely to change more drastically than if you have some sort of record of the event itself. My "brother from another mother" did mix up some of the events with some of the other events that we lived together which had to do with the North Star Companies, but that is to be expected. I am just making a footnote here about that. And as Mike himself said in the pod cast, our minds do play tricks on us. Regardless, I think the web is a great tool with an amazingly wide reach, but with this power comes responsibility for those who want to keep the record straight sort of speak. In any case, the web serves us well in keeping dates and the places "locked in", but as far as truth is concerned....I dont think we can know truth after an human event has passed, - truth may only exist briefly and only survive in its own time and space of an occurrence.

A philosophy of doing shall rule until the days when I can no longer "do" arrive. Because when I am too old to adjust an AX relay or relieve a woman friend from sighing, there will only be memories to fill my time. So, the task at hand is to build that RRSP of memories in order to joyfully cushion the last stages of life.

I always preferred the exceptional qualities quietly lurking beneath any normal state of affairs. But now, our meaningless day to day is promoted into the realm of the extraordinary via a world wide web of self-promotion mostly fueled by the new dumb. Add to that a saturation of information rendering the ability of the masses to react, think & follow through with real action even more unlikely.
