Surf Champ - opinions and value

Post by medvet »

Hi guys. Need help please. I've been approached by somebody with a Surf Champ. Been in the home for years not played. Trying to find out if it's a game that's fun to play by EM standards. I have a Fireball and 4 Million BC and enjoy them, but not a big EM person. Also, any idea of value? Consider it average playfield etc and non working relatively. I have not gone to see due to elderly owner and Covid but want to be prepared before figuring this out. Ultimately, it's being sold so if I don't buy it, I can arrange a fellow collector to get it. I will probably bring to my house for ease but all sale price will go to the owner. I'm not reselling it, just helping out an elderly neighbour. TIA

Hi Medvet

For me surf champ is one of the best Gottlieb EM from this area. She had everything, spinner, drop target, pop bumper... i really like it when a owned one... don't really follow the market right now, so I can't help you with this...

Well hello there!
"pre covid" prices were 500-1000 for that pin, depending on condition of course.
LF: COLOR VECTOR monitor, shmups or any PCB, specifically Namco System 1 (Pacmania), let me know what you have!

I just sold the sister pin, Surfer (2-player) for $1000. Backglass and cabinet were rough, but the playfield was in above average shape and it was working.

Sale thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=27019&p=229762&hil ... er#p229762
The photos have been taken down though - sorry.

The gent I sold it to is already redoing the entire cabinet here: viewtopic.php?p=230033#p230033

Fantastic pin and well worth owning. One of the best Gottlieb multiplayers in my opinion. In nice shape, fully working and shopped, I think $1,500 to $1,800. Adjust from there based on condition and work required.

Update. The game is being delivered this weekend to me by a son and I will go over it and take good pics etc. I will clean it up and check it over for her. If we end up passing on it, I will offer it for sale for the owner for pick up only from my place. As I said previously, this is to help out an elderly neighbour who has to downsize. Thanks for all the advice guys. Very appreciated.

I’m late to the thread, but I bought the Surfer machine from Fifty not long ago and find the game quite enjoyable.

There are enough mechanical elements to the game that there is a strategy to playing, which makes it more fun to play than some older EM machines.
Machines Owned:
- Stern Star Wars
- Stern Mustang
- Gottlieb Surfer
