Hello everyone.
I was curious as to what you guys use to clean the inside of a pinball cabinet, mostly the black dust that the coils do after many years of use.
It's wood, so cleaning it with a wet rag is out of the question, I was thinking of sanding it with 400 grit or 600grit sand paper and passing the vacuum cleaner after but I'm not sure the results will be very good.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Cleaning an inside Pinball cabinet??
Honestly I just vacuum it and forget it. Sometimes I touch up the cabinet walls with some acrylic paints, and if something is really bothering me, like a rusted out transformer, or piece of wood that is just not white any longer then I focus on that. Cleaning up everything isn't possible. It use to bother me as well, as I want everything perfect, but I soon learned it's pinball and it's not perfect. If you really want it clean, then you start getting deeper in and further along until you are ultimately restoring the entire thing.

I’ll vacuum and use a cheap paint brush at the same time to loosen anything heavy.

Re: Cleaning an inside Pinball cabinet??
Like others have said, vacuum. It's totally up to you how far you go with cleaning inside the cab, though. I have seen the inside of games, especially restored games, where the owner has gone the extra mile. Looks awesome and if it makes you happy, do it. I have seen games that were sanded and repainted. Looks amazing. I have seen inside EMs where the guts were removed and inside sanded clean. Again, looks amazing.
For me, I vacuum when I initially buy the game. Generally doesn't need it again unless it's a modern Stern with crap coil stops that I forgot to replace.

As others have said. Vacuum and forget it. Unless there is a nasty smell that can’t be removed using charcoal filters in which case sanding might be a last resort. But yeah just vacuum and save your effort for more meaningful repair work.
