It took two evenings, but I liberated the harness from the playfield. This is what’s left behind. Harness has been for a spin in the dishwasher and will now hang to dry for a few days.

Ignore the mess around the electrical panel; in an electrician’s house, it’s always a work in progress.

How are you keeping the labels on the coils? Do they have a sticky back or are you just taping them? Love the blue.

Elmer's purple disappearing glue sticks. Works great, and it's water soluble. If someone wanted to replace the label when they're swapping the playfield again in forty years, five minutes in the ultrasonic will have it apart like wet toilet paper.

Will you be replacing the ground braid Colin?

Cabinet ground braid is solid, but the playfield buss wire will definitely be replaced. I never remove the old ones- I use them as a template when tacking down new buss.

Repopulation is coming along nicely. I was going to do the buss wire today but decided to place bulky mechs instead so I can route it better.

I know I’ve complained about it before (as has everyone who has done a playfield swap) but CPR really seem to have something about getting the screw divots in the right place.

If we all know the screws are going to be out of alignment anyway, why bother making the divots in the first place?

Finally in the home run stretch! Just a couple more plastics to reattach and I need to drop it back into the machine for dialling in. This was such a huge project and I’m happy to be getting close to wrapping it up.

I have a love/hate relationship with CPR. Like, thanks for being there and doing what you do, but also, how is registration always so perfectly wrong in an age of digital accuracy?

The hole pattern here is rotated about 10° CW of where it needs to sit, causing the kicker arm to not be able to get enough power to knock the ball over the ramp. Minor misplacement, massive failure.

Oh well. In wood glue we trust. There’s probably a half container of toothpicks in this field to repair errors.

And this restoration is complete. This might just be the finest Bally Xenon in the city.
