WTB: Lower-end DMD pinball machine

Post by Azatotht »

I have an empty third spot and I am looking to buy a lower-end DMD pinball machine (Data East and up).

Budget is around 4000$, if you have something that you were thinking about selling in that price range please drop me a PM.

Not a fan of Gottliebs in general but there's a few I would consider too.

Pas vraiment intéressé par la Gottliebs mais il y en a quelques-unes que je considèrerais.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you find a killer deal, the DMD machines under $4K I've been seeing are:

- Gottlieb
- For DE machines: either Lethal Weapon 3 / Royal Rumble / Maverick
- For Bally/Williams: Hurricane

Again, you might find a deal and/or a hornet's nest of problems for other titles, but with the number of lurkers hawking the classifieds on FB and kijiji, they are few and far between and you must be quick/close-by to grab them.

If you feel doing a small trek on the "dark side", there's a Maverick in Sudbury for $4K...

bonne chan'! :)

You are right but... most of what we see on Marketplace (at least in the area here) are resellers posts so prices are all over the place.

I will most likely have to wait until the budget is higher and aim for a Stern Pro which honestly seems to be the best value in this market anyway.

It's a bit odd than any decent nineties DMD machine is priced almost exactly the same as Sterns Pros or at least so close that it's aint worth it.

Resellers have been part of the hobby since the beginning of Maaca...and most likely sooner than that. You have flippers, you have collectors/hobbyists. It is what it is.

I agree that a Stern pro is the best of for the buck, but beware, some of them suck...a lot...

There's a lot I haven't tried yet, from the ones I have tried I would say that Munsters isn't great and I wasn't impressed by Mandalorian.

People doesn't seems to like Turtles but I love hard games and I liked it quite a bit.

What is your list ?

In my books:
Led Zeppelin is on the top of sucking...Music is awesome and....that's it.
I don't like Mando either. Cannot stand it.
I am not a fan of Venom at all.

I can't comment on Turtles, I've only played a few games when it came out and my memory of it is vague.

One machine that seems to not have a lot of love (price-wise), but I do enjoy playing is Foo Fighters. There's one for sale for $7500 in Calgary and has been for sale for a while... Not a fan of Foo music (I know maybe 2-3 songs) but the game is fun (IMHO). Another "cheaper" one that I find fun although I'm not a Marvel fan is Avengers IQ. Code is deeeeeeep on this one.

A few machines were at the bottom of the list, but with a code re-write have been climbing up the echelon are Bond and Wick. Honorable mention to X-Men (although I'm not a fan of the layout at all). I wouldn't mind getting a Bond eventually and I got a Wick, to which I LOVE it! Makes Godzilla look like an E.M. for ball speed.

Everyone has different tastes...and I don't rely on pinside to tell me which game I should like...or not... ;)

Mes cin'cennes,

Frosken

Seems like we may have similar taste.

I really like AIQ, played both the LE and the Pro. What people find hard seems to be easy enough for me

While the LE looks absolutely beautiful with the real backglass, I like the Pro gameplay better. Faster.

Foo Fighters is another one I like too, my cousin bought one NIB last year and he still plays it a lot.

Glad you mention John Wick cause I definitely have it on my « want to try » list. Fast gameplay is what I am after.

How was Rush when you owned it ? Only played the LE a couple of times and found it too easy (to keep the ball in play, can’t tell for the rules, haven’t played enough).

I liked Rush!

By no means it was an "easy" game. Maybe the one you played was set up as easy with the posts, because mine was a drain monster. I kept it stock and I had the very first batch. I know the later batches had some improvements. Once you understand the rules, it's a fun game. I had it for 3 years and it was time to make a change.

I am contemplating on trading/selling my gz for another game. Love the game and fun, but games are loooooong. Typical Elwin...LOL.
I really like Wick! love the theme, art, sounds, speeeed and tight shots. I cannot wait for the next code update which (hopefully) will include the mini-wizard modes. Stop by and try it out! ;)
