1963 Midway Rifle Range Restoration
I just picked up a Midway Rifle Range it needs some work, but all of the parts are there except the gun coil and finger switches.
It looks like a simple system to work on, the targets are sticking so a complete cleaning will be done.

Re: 1963 Midway Rifle Range Restoration
I hate to bust your bubble, but these gun games are VERY difficult to get working 100%. When I did my 1 Million BC a while back, I had my Tech friend spend about 20 hours on it, just trying to get it to run correctly.
I hope yours is not as bad as mine was, but I've owned 3 gun games in the past, and they are not simple to fix.
Good luck! Looks like a good one.

Thanks for the info, It will probally take about 20 hours just to it clean the target mechs they have to be torn down completely. They are all gummed up with old grease and don't move the way they should.

Like many things in life you get out what you put into it. Just buying something that works isn't quite as rewarding as making it work.
Does that have motorized scoring reels in it?

Cool game, and the price was right too.

Re: 1963 Midway Rifle Range Restoration
I have restored 3 pitch and bats and too many old Gottliebs. This is my first em shooter. It has all the same steppers as other em's I have worked on. The scoring sreels are motorized.
No matter how hard it is to set up, it can't be worse than working on a system 80 Gottlieb.
Yes I lucked out and got a good deal.

Re: 1963 Midway Rifle Range Restoration
WOW you did an amazing job on that restoration!!
I won't go that far with mine I want to get it working first then maybe replace the glass. The targets and art in good shape, the cabinet is solid so I want to keep it as original as possible.

Game on Grafix might be able to hook you up with a translite replacement for your BG. My BG was in really good condition but they make one for HH.

I also have a Rifle Range.
I also have schemos.....
I bet you are ready to be my friend...
Get in touch with me and I will make scans if you still need them.
I am not so good with reading the schemos.
I have everything working except for I am having issues with the "Beat This Score" feature.
Easy machine to work on really. The score reels were a breeze.
Here is a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UpLstWt ... ture=g-upl

Re: 1963 Midway Rifle Range Restoration
I received my schematics on Monday so after 10 hours of cleaning the target motor, contacts, steppers, coils and connectors I replaced the missing gun coil and leaf switches.
IT WORKS!!
I still have some tweaking and a lot of testing to do but it is back from the dead.
It is a simple system to work on as long as all of the contacts are clean and completing the circuit.
The targets move back and forth using a motor and chain system once they reach the end of the cycle the motor reverses. As the targets move they hit contacts and complete that part of the circuit. The gun has an arm attached to the bottom that has a stylus like a record player, it moves along a board with contacts on it as well, when the gun position contacts line up with the target contacts and the trigger is pulled it completes the circuit the target will spin or fall over and it gives you points. When the trigger is pulled it energizes a coil on the bottom of the gun and it feels like the gun is recoiling. When the target is hit a chime goes off.
As you shoot a stepper unit advances and lights targets for more points. You have 40 seconds to make 20 shots if you take less than 40 seconds the game will give you another 10 shots. There is a high score to beat, a stepper unit randomly picks it if you beat the score you get a free game (I think, still working on that part).
If you have any questions or need pictures I will be happy to help.
I will be testing this game for the next week or so then it will go to the arcade so everyone can enjoy it.
I will keep you posted.
Mike

Cool, always wondered how the gun tech worked in those old EM's, makes sense too, kind of brilliant for whoever came up with the first one.

Re: 1963 Midway Rifle Range Restoration
Hi, I’ve just acquired the same game and looking to restore it. It partially works now, but not fully functional. I’m looking for any docs available, I.e. schematics, manuals or drawings. Really would be helpful to know the sequence of operations. Thanks for any help with these docs or leads on how to acquire them
