LF: Backglass source in Montreal area?

Post by Meat_Popsicle »

Before I cut a sheet of plexiglass. I was wondering if there is a source somewhere in the Montreal area for a custom size backglass.

A few people I contacted could not get tempered glass in 1/8 thickness.

Need - 28-1/2" X 21" x 1/8"

Thanks

Backglass typically isn’t tempered.

Well, it depends, I know by expereience that Stern backglasses are not tempered on the outside edge but are tempered in the middle.
Edit: I'm sorry, I made a mistake, it was'nt the Stern backglasses but the Williams backglasses that were tempered in the middle, bad memory.

Thanks for the response. I’ve always assumed it was tempered, since the playfield is tempered and sites like Marco only offer tempered backglass.

It.depends on the manufacturer. Williams used to use tempered glass in their silkscreened backglasses in the 70's/80's. Bally often went with regular plate glass. So did Stern. Gottlieb also went with plate glass.

1/8" is uncommon for tempered. Too thin and can explode when being processed.

If it were me, I would go with plate glass with buffed edges. Safer to grab, and definitely cheaper.
