What did you do today in the hobby?

Post by monkeybug »

I was thinking, as a way of motivating those that need it, and to share stories... What did you do today? What fixes/upgrades/mods got accomplished?

(Reading PinGeorge's WB thread was the main idea behind this)

Today I added PinballPal flipper mylar protectors on my IJ. I also installed the Pinbits DMD polarized film cover for my IJ. No more glare over the lost plastic now. 8-)

Does that film actually work? I was going to pick one up to try it but there sold out. Also $18! Might be worth it if it works alright.

I have installed both the Pinbits and the Pinball Pal one. Both work well. Here is what I have found:

Pinbits:
Pro - Cheap
Pro - Cut oversized for easy placement
Con - The sticky strips they give you are tricky to put on
Con - No instructions
Con - Backing paper is really stuck on the film requiring some strength.

Pinball Pal:
Pro - Slightly better quality
Pro - Detailed instructions
Pro - Easier sticky 'stuff'. Much faster to install.
Con - Cut to almost identical size. A steady hand is needed to put it on.
Con - Price

They are both a bit different. The Pinball Pal one is probably a bit better in the overall effect. The downside is that its not cut for any leeway in installation. With the Pinbits one, you can place the glue strips outside of the DMD area so they remain invisible. I put one on TSPP and I think it makes a world of difference.

Yesterday I fixed a switch problem on rfm, I brought in and setup swep1 from the garage and ime about to start the teardown. I also installed a new t-nut on my MC (thanks, menace!). Oh, and I installed my LED modded aliens into my RFM. They look really cool. 8-)

OH! And I swapped monitors from swep to rfm.

OH! And I tested the swep driver board (it's fine)

Been busy this week!

A world without guys like Terry in it would probably be like the future world in Demolition Man. One filled with 47-year-old virgin men sitting around in their beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener". -Sparky

A couple days ago my Galaga suffered a vertical collapse so, today, I finished the cap kit but also swapped out FR401 as well as reflowed the vertical section of the chassis for cold solder joints and or hairline cracks. Bingo! I'm back to having a full screen of alien bugs!

I'll head down for more to-do's after dinner.

Tonight I changed a burnt GI bulb on SS and then spent a good hour flipping around FH,SS,CV,AFM and RFM from which I concluded I was playing like poop tonight. I was looking at the ball trail up top on TZ and AFM and thinking I need to get on that. That's as far as I got on the ball trail dirt.... I thought about it.

I just replaced the plunger sleeve on my SWEP1. I think I cursed at the C-Clip for about 10 minutes and tried to figure out a better system to no avail.

Opened a box I received from CPR today, and checked over the 2 TZ Mini PF's that were inside for issues. Both the proto and production PF's look great!

My normal Friday pin-fixin' has been suspended this week due to my Saturday plans. Maybe next week they will resume as normal, and I'll have more interesting things to post.

I bought a machine today, and might just buy another one tomorrow.

I also finished some more framing on the basement. Go nail gun! Much easier to use when there's not a toddler sleeping upstairs-those compressors are loud!

- Found my board!! Yay!!!

- Also found 3 new power supply boards for Ballys and Sterns! Bonus!

- Got high as a kite with the HS putty job. Fantastic stuff, but man does it ever smell.

- Started sanding Loafer's virtual pin cab

Good evening overall, but I stayed up too late... again. Up in 5 hours with the kids. :(

Was playing Flintstones Monday Night when 2 Balls fell into the Cab, Turns out the VUK up to the "Machine" broke, so... Fixed that (Nice to have a Spare!) and then just carried on... I hope I remember how this goes back together!

It is actually pretty clean, but will get Cleaned, Waxed, Rubbered (White!) and Reassembled. Already rebuilt Flippers and all other solenoids. Should play Great!
