Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Got a bit done. First, I worked on my el cheapo mame cabinet. I picked this up recently. It is a Canadian-built generic cab that had been converted to a Neo Geo set up. Nothing really original left in the cab.
The large 27" monitor inside had major issues. A Korean-built A-One monitor. Not much out there on these, except for a cap kit. No other parts. So, I removed it and saved it for later. I had already installed a Unico Phoenix 26" 4:3 LCD. I know... sacrilege. But I looked for a D9200 for a while. No one is selling.
I then removed all the peeling-chrome t-molding, put a new overlay (holes already there for Street Fighter configuration) and slapped in some computer speakers.
Nothing high-end. I just want to play. Finished off the day by going to the Montreal Pinball Arcade. Had a blast chatting with friends, played Double Dragon to the end and some pinball, and ate some Chalet BBQ chicken.
Not a bad day...

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Well, today is all about paying it back.
When my house burned, à few guys came over to help out, no questions asked.
Tonight, with a power failure, one of them needed a hand. So, I showed up with my generator, and took care of his sump pumps.
Moral of the story? We need to take care of each other when we can. Friends and family are the only priceless riches worth while in life.
Do something selfless for a friend. You'll feel good about it.
... oh yeah. I got this running as well.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
It's been a while. I've been trying to get out and play more pinball on location. Kind of bummed about Haggis tanking, despite not understanding their pricing. I got invited to run a panel on pinball history at PinExpo 40 this year.
I posted about the history booth at COAPF and I'm sharing my super-breezy 4-page pinball ancestry history https://pinballnovice.blogspot.com/2024 ... iteup.html
I had 5 pinball VHS tapes from the 1990s digitized. Get all those here: https://pinballnovice.blogspot.com/2024 ... s-and.html
I'm going to lump together all of the scans I've been posting. And it's a lot, and there's some incredibly cool stuff in this.

Re: What did you do today in the hobby?
Well, I got some signs of life in Defender last night. I fixed the power supply, but was getting nothing. I reseated all the chips quickly and ended up getting 2 flashes off of the LEDs on the rom board. So... encouraging. Although that just tells me that I need to resocket all the chips.
No image on the monitor and no sound. So, time to refurbish the monitor. Sound board after...

Not super exciting, but I am reorganizing the shop a bit, and cleaning up.
I finally brought in my Taito board tester. Still works, but the joysticks need to be replaced. Already ordered, and on their way.

That Taito board tester is incredibly cool. Have to show that to a friend.

I played that pitch n bat so much in the 90s!
Also if I ever find a used Julie Pinball for a good price I'll probably buy one. Even if my daughter is outgrowing those 18" dolls.
