One man development team free MAME based VR arcade. Details in the video description. Lots of attention to detail and works quite well.
Requires PCVR set up to run.

Ahah yeah
I watched that video yesterday and it is beyond cool. I will fire up my Rift S to try this out soon, my son have a top of the line Ryzen so it should be ok.

You should be fine with that. You will need to connect a controller to play the games. The VR controllers for moving around and the game controller to play games. Something the PC sees like xinput of an XBox controller or others set up for PC play. Same you would do to play MAME with a controller. At least that's the way it is now with the present version.
Make sure you use MAME 2010 non-merged ROMs. If you want NEO GEO to run you need to also add the neo geo bios to the rom folder.

Thanks for the tips, I’m out of town right but should give this a try very soon and will report my feedback.
I think I have all the latest non merged roms that I downloaded not so long ago when I started experimenting with Batocera.

You don't want the latest. You want the 2010 ROMs.
Attached instructions has a list of the ROMs required.
